Species are the basic unit of community ecology research. The discovery and description of new species form the baseline information that biodiversity scientists need to understand and conserve the Earth’s diversity. Dr. Lindo continues to develop her taxonomic expertise for the Acarine suborder Oribatida through the process of describing species. To date she has described eight species from arboreal and forest floor habitats in coniferous temperate and montane forests of the Pacific Northwest of North America. Species are typically described on the basis of adult and immature morphology, molecular sequence data for the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 (CO1) gene, and ecology.
